2020 Scottish GT Regionals Rd1 – Report

The first round of the BRCA Scottish GT regionals took place last weekend at Dundee and Angus Radio Control Car Club. This popular series is now in its seventh year of running. The regional series is typically run on smaller club tracks so heats and finals are run with six cars to give the best racing possible. The Dundee club laid a fast and flowing track and with four rounds of qualifying and three finals for all, drivers had plenty of time to show what their cars could do. Qualifying saw a two way battle for pole position between last year’s series winner John Simpson and Kenneth Rogers with these two drivers the only two to reach a 35 lap time. John would line up first ahead of Kenneth. Colin Leslie would line up 3rd ahead of David McLean, David Bruce and Fraser Leslie.

Leg one would see John and Kenneth racing closely for the whole six minutes with John bringing his car home half a second ahead of Kenneth at the finish line. The rest of the field would finish in qualifying order. John would also win leg two giving him the overall victory. The battle for 2nd and 3rd was then hard fought between Kenneth, David and Colin. David took the win in leg three which along with a 2nd place in leg two would give him 2bd place. Kenneth and Colin would tie on points but with the tie break decided on qualifying order meant Kenneth completed the podium. David Bruce would finish 4th and Fraser Leslie 6th.

This was the first round of a three round championship which is looking to be even more competitive this year. The next round is hosted by Lothian Radio Control Car Club in January.

JConcepts JCI Creep 12.3″ wheelbase body

JConcepts have introduced their new JCI Creep 12.3” wheelbase crawler body shell for trucks such as the Traxxas TRX-4 Sport, the Element RC Enduro and the Axial SCX10. The Creep began a hard life working the local farms, occasional fair and eventually into the mud pits. Pulling the Creep from the hard work of a farm truck wasn’t easy, however, JConcepts has dropped the cloth on a new crawling legend. Starting with a crisp front-end, the narrow truck has a skeleton like grille and beady eyes that have an angular V shape structure setting up the hood line and front-end clip. The long nose dead-ends into the V-shaped windshield which transitions into a large single cab providing that all-important vintage feel. It was important for this body shell to have a bed area that allowed ample mounting space for different chassis combinations but also space a user can experiment with their own accessories. Behind the rear cab bracing, a bed area rests with hard rails up top for strength and security. A dove-tailed rear end gives clearance and a rather experimental aggressive look to the rear panel. The front and rear are equipped with a flange style, sheet metal appearing, wheel well housings which gives the Creep its military fit and finish. The body includes window masks and a detailed JCI Creep decal sheet.

JConcepts 1989 Ford F-150 California Stampede body

Coming from JConcepts is their new 1989 Ford F-150 California body shell for the Traxxas Stampede truck. The body was built for the Traxxas Stampede “BIGFOOT No. 1 The Original Monster Truck” and it offers first class styling and its exterior is accentuated with smooth raised fenders and stepped front bumper. The strongest point to the design resolves back to the husky front and rear fenders giving it that pre-runner look. The extra bulk in this department gives the truck a boastful look capable of clearing an assortment of tires. A racy cab with scribed in window net, built-in racerback and roll-bar bed hosts a location for the mock spare tire for those long days in the dunes. The body features Ford licensed grille and headlights, wrap-around parking lights, a minimalist grille and an accurate and clean-looking Ford/JConcepts decal sheet. The body is a direct fit for the Traxxas BIGFOOT No. 1 and for fitment on all other Stampede models, its necessary to use the Traxxas #3619 body mount kit.

Czech Masters Series Rd2 – Report

The second round of the Czech Masters Series was held at the Sport Arena in Prague, Czech Republic this past weekend. The race saw once again more than 100 entries overall and as always the schedule was open practice on Saturday morning, which was followed by qualifying and then finals. In 2WD Buggy Max Götzl was able to top the opening qualifier in front of Martin Bayer, as the latter made some mistakes, and Jiri Mara in 3rd. But coming Q2 it was Martin on top in Q2 and Q3 for the the overall TQ in front of Max in 2nd and Jiri in 3rd.

Over in 4WD Buggy Martin took the opening qualifier with Max topping Q2, so the overall TQ was about to be decided in Q3. Unfortunately for Max he crashed once and wasn’t on the same pace as Martin, so the latter took the overall TQ, in front of Max in 2nd and Jiri in 3rd. In the Truck class it was Max with the overall TQ from Frank Hempel 2nd and Marcel Dostal 3rd.

In the 2WD finals Martin and Max had very exciting battles for the win, and Martin came out on top in A1 and A2 to take the overall win, but Max finished only two tenths of a second behind him in both finals. Martin also took the third and final A-main so it was Max in 2nd and Jiri in 3rd overall.

A1 of 4WD went to Martin after some very close racing, as Max finished under one second behind him in 2nd. A2 went different as Martin had some problems with lapped drivers and crashed, allowing Max to take the lead and with it the win in A2 in front of Martin and Jiri. A3 went pretty similar, Max made a big mistake early on and Martin had a big gap, but later he again got into trouble with a lapped driver that crashed him once again. Max was able to take the lead and resist Martin’s attacks to take the A3 as well as the overall win. Overall and behind Max it was Martin with the runner-up spot from Jiri in 3rd.

Over in the Stadium Truck class it was Frank Hempel with the win in A1 as Max had some problems, but the latter was able to take the win in A2 and A3 easily to secure the overall victory from Frank in 2nd and Marcel in 3rd.
